PEDESTAL

If we have an engine fire, why should we turn the fire T handle toward the affected engine?
This action will fire the # 1 fire bottle saving the # 2 fire bottle for the engine and APU.
Where is the # 1 fire bottle located?
On the Right Side in the Tail Compartment.
How would you know if a fire bottle were empty or low on pressure?
Amber L – R FIRE BTL DISCHG message on the CAS
What will produce an amber L – R THROTTLE CONFIG message?
Throttles not in idle position prior to engine start.
What does it mean if we have the following symptoms displayed on the EICAS prior to engine start?
  1. blue EPR needles
  2. blue L – R ENG ALT CTRL message
  3. blue ALT’s displayed above the LP digits
  4. The Engines have switched into the ALTERNATE (LP) Control Mode
How do we get the system to switch back to the normal mode? (Engines Not Running)
  1. Recycle the FUEL CONTROL Switches to ON, then OFF, (preferred method)
  2. Select SENSOR page of the DISPLAY CONTROLLER
    1. Select LSK 2L & 3L
    2. UNBOX L – R ENG ALT CTRL
What is the Purpose of the GPWS / GND SPLR FLAP ORIDE Switch?
  1. If landing with less then full flaps, this switch allows ground spoilers to deploy (if armed) during wheel spin up rather than WOW.
  2. Deactivated the GPWS "TOO LOW FLAPS" audio message.
If we were making a Zero Flap, ILS Approach, on Glide Slope, above Max Landing Gross Weight and the GPWS / GND SPLR FLAP ORIDE Switch is selected ON, why would we hear the: "TOO LOW TERRAIN" audio warning message?
Mode 4B of the GPWS may be triggered at ‹ 500 feet and › 159 knots
How could we silence the "TOO LOW TERRAIN" warning under those conditions?
Select the GPWS ORIDE switch on the Master Warning / Caution panel.
What will happen if we advance the Throttles for Takeoff with the GPWS / GND SPLR FLAP ORIDE Switch ON?
We will get an AIRCRAFT CONFIG red message.
What is the purpose of the SPOILER CONTROL Switch?
When selected OFF, it removes Hydraulic Power from the
  • Flight Spoilers,
  • Ground Spoilers,
  • Speed Brakes
When would you ever want to turn OFF the SPOILER CONTROL Switch?
In the unlikely event that one of the Ailerons become Jammed Up and Flight Spoilers are activated, or the Flight Spoilers actuators develop a hardover condition, turning OFF the SPOILER CONTROL Switch will take away Hydraulic power from the Flight Spoilers and possibly regain better lateral controllability after the Aileron Disconnect is pulled to correct the malfunction.
What does an amber SPEED BRAKE EXTENDED message indicate?
The Speed Brake is extended with the Power Levers above IDLE.
How many Speed Brake panels are there on the GV?
6, 2 Outboard, 1 Inboard per wing.
How far will the Speed Brakes deploy?
30° / 55° with full aileron movement.
Can the STALL BARR Switch be selected OFF in Flight?
Sure, just deselect it. However, an operative stall barrier system must be ON during all flight operations unless it is malfunctioning.
If an amber ANTI-SKID message is displayed, should the ANTI -SKID system be turned OFF?
No. The ANTI -SKID system has a backup Paired Wheel protection. The System compares a 30% differential in paired wheel speed (comparing inboards to inboards, and outboards to outboards). If one paired Wheel Speed is 30% slower then the other wheel speed, a skid is assumed and the brake pressure is released automatically. However, the ANTI -SKID system must be ON for this backup system to operate.
What is the function of the Thrust Reverser Manual Stow Switches?
In the unlikely event that you have an unscheduled deployment of a Thrust Reverser, the on side Thrust Reverser Manual Stow Switch will port 3000 psi of Hydraulic pressure to the close side of the Thrust Reverser Actuator, thus closing the Thrust Reverser.
If a Thrust Reverser should deploy, what happens to the Throttle?
The on side throttle will remain in its current position. However, the engine will spool down to LOW IDLE.
What would happen to the Throttle once the Thrust Reverser Manual Stow Switch is pressed?
The throttle will be functional, as the engine would spool back up.
Could you use the Thrust Reverser during touch down?
No. An amber L – R TR FAIL and L – R TR MAINT messages would also be displayed.
What is the function of the EMER STAB Switch?
When ARMED, the EMER STAB Switch disconnects the Stab from the FLAP / STAB computer, inhibits the Electric Pitch Trim and allows the pilot to trim the Stab with the Control Wheel Pitch Trim Switch.
What are the control trim limits of the STAB in the EMER STAB ARMED mode?
+1.5° to – 4.6°
What is the purpose of the AIL / ELEV DISC handles?
In the unlikely event that an Aileron or the Elevator becomes jammed, either one of the handles can be pulled to fully separate the ailerons (AIL DISC) or Elevators (ELEV DISC) to operate the control wheels independently. Of course, the jammed control surface will remain immovable, while the movable control surface is now free to control the aircraft. There is also a gas spring cartridge (Labeled LIFT) which will provide between 110 – 150 pounds of additional force to assist in fully extending the appropriate handle.
The RFMU has dual Frequency Tuning Display (one for Primary and one for Standby) on the Top Level Page for VHF COMM and NAV. However, there is only one Frequency Display for the ADF. Is there any way to tune a Standby Frequency for the ADF?
Yes. By selecting the LSK 4L twice, the RFMU will go to a Second Level Page of the ADF, where a Standby Frequency can be tuned.
Can the RFMU Frequencies be tuned from the FMS? If so how?
Yes. Select NAV / TUNE
How can you tell what Mode is selected (TA/RA or TA ONLY) on the TCAS without selecting the dedicated TCAS page on the RFMU?
The TCAS Mode is displayed on the PILOTS DISPLAY UNIT upper left corner.
If the RFMU has been cold soaked over night, how long could it take for the Florescent Screen to reach full display brightness?
Approximately 10 minutes.
If installed, what should we check on the LASERTRAK?
Ensure that LASERTRAK present position corresponds to that displayed position sensors in the IRS / GPS in the FMS on the NAV / POS SENSORS Page.
If installed, how and why should we set up the LASERTRAK for Navigation?
In the unlikely event that both FMS’s Fail, we will have a back up for Navigation. If both FMS should fail, we can select the LASERTRAK on the NAV Page of the Display Controller for Navigation, and then fill in intermediate Way point positions in positions 2 – 8 while we track toward our destination on way point 9.
  • Select (WPT) WAY POINT 1
Input Present Position / N Longitude (ENT) ENTER, W Latitude ENT
  • Select WPT 9
Input Destination Position / N Longitude ENT, W Latitude ENT
  • Select (LEG CHG) Leg Change 1 – 9 ENT
When we select STANDBY on the Radar Control head, why does an amber WAIT flash on and off in the lower left corner of the NAV display?
Radar is warming up
What does a SLV displayed in amber on your radar control head indicate?
Your radar is Slaved to the other radar control head because your radar control is off.
What are you checking on the Cabin Pressure Selector Panel?
Landing Field Elevation.
